How to get to Minca

✈️ By plane: Minca doesn’t have its own airport, but the nearest major city with an airport is Santa Marta, about a 45-minute drive away. The Santa Marta Simon Bolivar International Airport (SMR) serves domestic flights from cities like Bogotá, Medellín, and other major destinations in Colombia. From the airport, you can easily arrange taxis or buses to reach Minca. We always advice you to ask your accommodation for transportation or book your transportation directly.

🚌 By bus: Travelers can take advantage of well-connected bus services from various Colombian cities to Santa Marta. Buses departing from Bogotá, Medellin, Cartagena, and other nearby locations provide convenient options for reaching Santa Marta. Local buses from Santa Marta to Minca leave from the station between Calle 11 and Calle 12. A single ticket costs about €3, and the journey takes around 45 minutes. 🥾 By trekking/hiking: For the adventurous, there are trekking routes leading to Minca from nearby areas like Santa Marta or the famous Tayrona National Park. Trekking through lush landscapes offers a scenic and immersive experience for those who prefer an active approach.

Enjoy the Adventurous Ride into the Mountains

For those staying in the mountains or visiting for a day trip, you can choose between motorbike rides or jeep rides. The road is rugged, especially after heavy rainfall, making it an adventurous journey. Motorbikes and jeeps can be arranged on the main street of Minca, close to the bridge.

Soak in the Sierra Nevada Views

Relax and immerse yourself in the magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains while lounging in a hammock. This experience allows you to fully appreciate the serene ambiance of Minca.

Tip: Sierra Minca, located where Casa Elemento first introduced its famous hammocks, offers breathtaking views, a heated swimming pool, hammocks, and a lively bar. You can stay overnight or visit for the day for a small fee.

Visit Cascade de Marinka

Take a refreshing dip in the beautiful Cascade de Marinka waterfall. This spot features hammocks and a restaurant for lunch or drinks. It’s just a 15-minute motorbike ride from Minca, and it’s best to visit early to avoid crowds. Another nearby waterfall is Pozo Azul, which is less impressive but more popular due to its easier accessibility. If you prefer not to take a motorbike trip, Pozo Azul is a great alternative.

Where to stay in Minca

Costeño River Minca is a lovely place just outside of town. It offers both dorms, as private rooms with a shared bathroom and private rooms with an ensuite. Dorms start at €20 a night, private rooms with a shared bathroom start at €45 and ensuite private rooms start at €85 a night.
