Major Colombian cities like Bogotá, Medellin, and Cali offer direct flights to Cartagena. Additionally, international flights from various countries land here. Once at Rafael Núñez International Airport, travelers can easily access taxis or buses for a short ride to reach the city center or their accommodations. 🚌 By bus: Cartagena enjoys good connectivity via bus services to and from major cities in Colombia. Travelers can find buses departing from cities such as Bogotá, Medellin, Cali, and other nearby destinations heading towards Cartagena. Bus journeys to Cartagena are long if you are travelling from the south. If you have the money to spend, then we recommend a short flight from either of the cities to the north. The journey from Santa Marta and Tayrona NP is easily done by bus.

⛴️ By boat: For the adventurous, a boat trip from Panama to Cartagena is a perfect option. The journey, known as the San Blas route, includes visits to the San Blas Islands. Departing from ports like Carti and Puerto Obaldia in Panama, the trip involves island-hopping through crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, ending at Colombia’s Caribbean coast. • Mama-Nilma: Experience traditional local food at Mama-Nilma, organized by the Getsemaní neighborhood. The menú del día includes soup, a main dish with meat or fish, and fruit for dessert, offering a homemade feel and supporting the local community.

Where to stay in Cartagena

Casa del Pozo Boutique Hostel is a very colourful place in the heart of Getsemaní. You will be warmly welcomed in the small hostel where you are able to meet many likeminded travellers. If it gets to hot during the day, you can have a refreshing dip in the small pool as well. Dorms start at €25 a night and double room start at €120 a night.

Other good options in the area is Hotel Boutique La Artilleria, offering private rooms and a fantastic rooftop pool to enjoy the views. Double rooms start at €75 a night.
