Diving in Molnár János Cave is a surreal experience. The cave maintains a comfortable water temperature ranging between 20-28°C (68-82°F) throughout the year, thanks to its thermal origins. Divers are treated to crystal-clear waters that illuminate mesmerizing limestone formations and intricate crystal structures adorning the cave walls. The gentle flow of water ensures a serene exploration, free from strong currents.

Unlike ocean or lake dives, you won’t encounter much marine life in Molnár János Cave. However, there is a section where you can find tiny shrimps. The true attraction of this dive is the cave system itself, with its fascinating rock formations and unique geological features.

Our Personal Experience

We had the incredible opportunity to dive in Molnár János Cave and we absolutely loved it. We were greeted at the entrance of the cave, where they have built a tunnel with everything you need to kit up. A short walk brought us to the starting point of our dive—a big, open area in the cave where we could easily jump into the water, test our equipment, and start our adventure.

Diving here is done with double tanks, and if you don’t have your own gear, you can rent a twin set. We dived with a double 12L setup, which was quite different from what we were used to. It took some getting used to, but the experience was absolutely worth it! We did two Intro to Cave dives, the first one reaching 18 meters and the second taking us down to 24 meters.

The feeling of diving beneath the city was surreal. Knowing that Budapest was bustling with life above us while we explored the cave made it all the more thrilling. If you have the necessary experience, this is definitely a must-do while you’re in Budapest!

Advanced divers without cave certification can still participate in guided intro cave dives. However, we haven’t personally explored these sites yet, so we can’t share firsthand experiences.
